A few months ago, I received an e-mail from Tracey Clark, of Mother May I. Tracey is a professional photographer, whose work I've admired for a while. She's also someone who'd intimidated the hell out of me back during BlogHer06 -- not because of anything she'd said, you understand, but she's just one of those tall, statuesque women whose mere presence makes you believe you need to sit up and pay attention, because Here Is Someone Who Matters. We'd spoken briefly on the phone in the past, but her e-mail was sort of a surprise.
In her e-mail, she told me about a plan she had to create a community site with other women photographers -- a site that contained beautiful images, yes, but also how-to tips on capturing great images, as well as share some of the soul behind photography: why photographers choose the subjects they do, why we are so passionate about our craft, what our inspirations are. The intent was not only to entertain readers, but to create community from like-minded shutterbugs, as well as help provide a bit of insight for those who were interested in photography, but didn't really know where to start. And then she asked me if I'd like to be a part of it. My response, as you can imagine, was immediate and positive. And so today, Shutter Sisters is born. It's truly a beautiful site, due to Tracey's hard work, but also because of the amazing contributions of my fellow photogs: Kate Inglis, Maile Wilson, Andrea Scher, Krystyn Heide, Paige Balcer, Irene Nam, and Sarah-Ji (talk about intimidating!). It's really an honour to have my photographs next to the work of these really talented women. So please, go check out Shutter Sisters. Flip through the archives, leave comments, add the URL to your RSS feed. If you see any bugs (because, after all, the site is new, and there are bound to be a couple of bugs lurking), please drop me (or any of us!) a line, and we'll get it fixed. In general, we'd love your feedback. Also? For those of you who've expressed that you miss Love Thursday, you'll be happy to hear that it's found a new home at Shutter Sisters. So, start looking for and collecting your images of love, and stay tuned! Update: To go directly to the site (and therefore load into your RSS feed), the URL is http://shuttersisters.squarespace.com/home. comments (19) |
